The challenge is to combine and coordinate different factors
You are a junior product owner at esurance. Describe your role and what your typical day looks like?
I would describe my everyday life as a junior product owner as very varied. On the one hand, I have my regular meetings, such as the daily exchange with the developers from Ukraine and the corresponding weekly meetings with the external stakeholders. The lively exchange and the different tasks make my work different every day. My tasks range from the start of a project to testing. I support the requirements gathering, consider the impact on the user experience and then write user stories to coordinate the tasks. Besides testing, there are of course other tasks to complete the whole process.
What were the main reasons for you to join esurance?
I have been with esurance AG for six months now and I can say that my expectations and assumptions have been completely exceeded. I wanted to work in an environment where I could constantly learn new things and contribute my ideas in order to create added value. As a young professional, it was particularly important for me to have a lot of contact with different personalities in order to promote my further education through the exchange of knowledge.
What product are you responsible for and working on?
I am responsible for our product groups Gastro, ICT and SWICA INTEGRA. The product groups differ in that the SWICA INTEGRA Shop is implemented as a white label solution for an insurance provider. In contrast, Gastro and ICT is an esurance shop solution marketed under our company’s brand. We try to develop the best digital and hybrid insurance solutions for the Gastro and ICT sectors. Basically, I help with all products of the product portfolio, the work differs depending on the product and the phase of implementation.
What challenges come with working on this product?
The challenge is to combine and coordinate different factors. For example, there are different wishes of the different stakeholders that do not always fit together from the beginning. Or other teams have to be included in the process that have a different level of knowledge. The needs of the personas, i.e. our customers, or the technical feasibility must not be forgotten. The challenge is to evaluate and balance everything in a meaningful way.
What are some improvements that you are stoked to work on in the future?
Exciting projects are in the pipeline for the future, such as the implementation of a new customer portal / cockpit. This project is one of the first in which I was able to participate from the beginning and contribute my ideas. Through the implementation of the new customer portal / cockpit, it should be possible to continue the customer journey after the purchase process has been completed. This means that the customer still has an overview of their existing insurance policies and can take advantage of advisory services and much more.
